Flying Notes

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS AND REGULATIONS (SECURITY)
  • In compliance with the Civil Aviation Law of the People’s Republic of China, the Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Civil Aviation Security and related laws and regulations, passengers and their baggage (including carry-on baggage and checked baggage) should go through security before boarding and loading.
  • Business and Economy passengers are permitted one carry-on with dimensions no more than 20×40×55 cm. First-Class passengers are permitted two carry-ons. The maximum weight of either one, or two carry-ons with combined weight, is 5 kg.
  • Please note the following information about taking flights.
ITEMS PROHIBITED BOTH IN CARRY-ON BAGGAGE AND CHECKED BAGGAGE

Firearms, Military Or Police Weapons (including their major components)
  • Military & service guns: pistols, rifles, submachine guns, machine guns, riot control guns.
  • Guns for civil use: air guns, shotguns, sporting rifles, anesthesia rifles, starting guns.
  • Other firearms: sample guns, guns as stage property.
  • Military & police weapons: truncheons, military or police daggers, bayonets.
  • State prohibited firearms and weapons: guns with steel balls, tear-gas guns, electric shock guns, electric shock implements, defense implements. 
  • Imitations of the above items.
Explosives
  • Ammunition: bombs, grenades, flares, incendiary bombs, gas bombs, cartridges (blank cartridges, fighting cartridges, testing cartridges, dummy cartridges).
  • Blasting materials: dynamite, detonators, fuses, primacords, non-electric detonating systems, blasting agents.
  • Pyrotechnic products: firework shells, fireworks, firecrackers.
  • Imitations of the above items.
Cutting Tools Under Control

These refer to the cutting tools listed in the Provisional Regulations on the Implementation of Control over a Part of Cutting Tools, promulgated by the Ministry of Public Security as approved by the State Council in 1983.

  • Daggers.
  • Three square tools (including striking knives used in machine work).
  • Tools with self-lock device.
  • Single-edged cutting tools longer than daggers.
  • Double-point tools.

NOTE: Cutting tools under control such as Tibetan knives, knives on girdle, knives in boots which minorities need to wear and use due to their habits and customs, are allowed to be put on sale or use only in national autonomous areas.

Inflammable And Explosive Items
  • Bottled compressed gas or liquefied gas: hydrogen, oxygen, butane.
  • Spontaneously combustible articles: yellow phosphorus, white phosphorus, nitrocellulose (including film), oil paper and its products.
  • Items combustible in water: metallic potassium, sodium, lithium, calcium, carbide, magnesia-aluminum powder.
  • Inflammable liquids: gasoline, kerosene, diesel oil, benzene, ethanol (alcohol), paint, dilute solutions, rosin oil.
  • Inflammable solids: flashlight powder, solidified alcohol, celluloid.
  • Inorganic and organic oxidizer: sodium peroxide, potassium peroxide, lead peroxide, peracetic acid.
Poisonous Items
  • Highly toxic articles: cyanide, highly toxic pesticide
Corrosive items
  • Sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, liquid batteries, sodium hydroxide, potassium hydroxide.
Radioactive Articles
  • Radio isotope.
Other Items Which May Jeopardize Flight Safety
  • Strongly magnetized items that may interfere with normal operation of instruments on board the aircraft.
  • Items with strongly irritating odor.

Other items prohibited both in carry-on baggage and checked baggage in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations of the state.

ITEMS PROHIBITED IN CARRY-ON BAGGAGE BUT PERMITTED IN CHECKED BAGGAGE
  • Kitchen knives, clippers, big fruit knives, razors.
  • Professional knives, including surgical knives, sticking knives and gravers.
  • Knives, spears and swords used for performance.
  • Axes, chisels, hammers, awls, sharpened sticks, sticks with sharp nails and alpenstocks.
  • Other sharp objects and blunt items harmful to aviation safety.
  • Alcohol (with alcohol content less than 70% and securely packaged).
ID Requirements

Domestic passengers will be required to show ticket, boarding pass, (not required for passengers with electronic tickets) and valid IDs including:

  • China issued ID card, Temporary ID card, Military Certificate, Armed Police Officer Certificate, Soldier Certificate, Cadet Certificate, Non-military Army Cadre Certificate, Retired Army Veteran Cadre Certificate, Army Staff and Worker Certificate.
  • Traveler identification of Hongkong and Macao residents and Taiwan compatriots.
  • Foreign government issued passport, registered traveler card, diplomat certificate.
  • Other types of valid identifications for taking the flight stipulated by CAAC.

NOTE: Minors under the age of 16 are permitted through security with their student certificates, residence booklets, or identification documents issued by local public security bureaus.

REGULATIONS ON FLIGHT CARRY-ON LIQUIDS

For security reasons, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has set restrictions on carry-on liquids on board flights as follows:

  • 1.For domestic passengers, liquids (except wine) are allowed in carry-on baggage up to a maximum of 1-litre after being opened for security inspection. Liquids that exceed the limit must be packed in checked baggage.
  • 2.Passengers departing China can take liquids, aerosols and gels that must fit in one clear, re-sealable, litre-sized plastic bag, in containers of 100ml or less. Any amount of liquid greater than 1 litre must be packed in checked baggage. Only one clear plastic bag is permitted per passenger and will be x-rayed at the security checkpoint separately.

    Passengers who are departing China and transferring at foreign airports should place liquids purchased in China duty free shops or on flights in sealed clear plastic bags, with receipts ready for inspection. Additional carriage policies on duty free liquids at transit airports should apply.

    The above regulations apply to passengers transiting through China to other international destinations. Carry-on duty free liquid items must be placed in completely sealed clear plastic bags with receipts.

  • 3.Wine is not permitted in carry-on baggage for all domestic flights, but allowed in checked baggage with proper packaging in accordance with CAAC regulations.
  • 4.Liquid items for special purposes, such as baby food, medications in reasonable quantities, are allowed in carry-on baggage after being inspected.
  • 5.Passengers who violate any of the above regulations do so at their own risk.

These policies will in force May 1, 2007, with Better Control of Flight Carry-on Liquids by CAAC (dated February 5, 2003) abolished.

REGULATIONS OF FLIGHT CARRY-ON LIGHTERS AND MATCHES

For security reasons, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has prohibited the carrying of lighters and matches onboard aircrafts, effective from today. All personal belongings are left at the owner’s risk.

REGULATIONS ON CARRY-ON LIQUIDS ON FLIGHTS FOR DOMESTIC DEPARTURES

For the security of passengers and their belongings, the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) has revised the policies on flight carry-on liquids as follows, effective from today.

  • 1. For domestic passengers, liquids are prohibited in carry-on baggage. Passengers will be advised to place liquid items in checked baggage with appropriate packaging in accordance with regulations of CAAC.
  • 2. Passengers are allowed to take small quantities of cosmetics for daily use (only one for each kind) in containers of 100ml or less, all in one clear plastic bag for security inspection when containers may be opened.
  • 3. Passengers who are arriving China and transferring to other domestic destinations are allowed to take carry-on duty free liquid items placed in completely sealed clear plastic bags with receipts after being inspected at the security checkpoint.
  • 4. Passengers with infant or toddle can apply for free in-flight baby food when ticketing. Medications (liquids, gels and aerosols) for passengers with medical conditions should be kept by the crew after being inspected.
  • 5. For international departures, CAAC Regulations on Flight Carry-on Liquids dated March 17, 2007 still applies.
  • 6. Passengers who violate any of the above regulations do so at their own risk.
